Unfrosted Hummingbird Cake

Hummingbird Cake

April 15, 2013 by jodiebakes

When asked have you ever had hummingbird cake?? Most people will say no, what is it?? The most distinguishable ingredients that make this layered cake amazing are ripe bananas, crushed pineapple, pecans, cinnamon, and a slathering of cream cheese frosting. One of the first recipes was originally published in a 1978 issue of Southern Living and was submitted by a Mrs. L. H. Wiggins of of North Carolina. It is my favorite cake of all time, I will even order […]

Peanut Butter Cookies

April 11, 2013 by jodiebakes

I will begin by saying that I love peanut butter cookies. Seriously. Well, anything with peanut butter in it, but especially cookies. My mom likes to say that I am obsessed with peanut butter. I am ok with that. I found a delicious peanut butter cookie while my husband and I were on vacation in Chicago. We were at Magnolia Bakery on State Street and they had them on display on the counter in a glass jar. My infatuation with […]

Karen's Mocha Cake

Karen’s Mocha Cake

December 10, 2012 by jodiebakes

This Mocha Cake was my first sale at JodieBakes. My friend Karen wanted a mocha flavored cake for her father-in-law’s birthday. I use a mocha cake for the German Chocolate Cake that I make so that is what I used for the cake part of this beauty. I researched until I found a swiss mocha buttercream that seemed interesting and delicious to cover the cake and fill in between the layers. I had never made a swiss buttercream on the […]

Old School Zucchini Bread

Old School Zucchini Bread

November 20, 2012 by jodiebakes

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us. Neighbors and friends are putting their Christmas lights up, trees are getting trimmed and families will be coming together to celebrate. The smell of zucchini bread baking will soon be filling my home with its delicious aroma and the memory of my grandmother will fill my heart. This zucchini bread was one of the baked goods that she would place in our gift bag on Christmas Eve. She always wrapped […]

Sprinkle Cake

October 21, 2012 by jodiebakes

I have to thank my friend Jenifer Meinke for this recipe. She found the idea for this cake on Pinterest and requested that I make it for her birthday and then forgot all about it. I surprised her with this Sprinkle Cake and she absolutely loved it! She liked it so much that she told all of the children at her party that there was booze in the frosting. The children said that they would just scrape the frosting off […]

Traditional Snickerdoodles

Traditional Snickerdoodles

October 8, 2012 by jodiebakes

These Snickerdoodle cookies are delicious. They are a simple sugar cookie, soft and chewy, with enough cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top to give them an interesting crunch. They are dusted twice with cinnamon and sugar, before baking and immediately after baking. I have tried rolling the cookie dough in the cinnamon and sugar mixture but I think that the cookie gets better coverage if it is just sprinkled twice. I also like to make these simple cookies quite large […]

Betty's Ginger Crinkle Cookies

Betty’s Ginger Crinkle Cookies

October 5, 2012 by jodiebakes

When I think of these cookies I am instantly transported back to my childhood during Christmastime. When I was young my family used to get together on Christmas Eve to have dinner and to have “Santa” (all of my aunts, uncles, adult cousins and grandparents) exchange gifts for all of us children. It was very secretive, they would go outside while we played to make the exchange. We had no idea that this all took place, we just woke […]

Susan's Carrot Cake

Susan’s Carrot Cake

October 1, 2012 by jodiebakes

This carrot cake has been in my husband’s family for quite some time. A few years ago I was I was fortunate enough to have this recipe passed onto me. My mother-in-law Susan used to make this cake for her birthday every year, now I make it for her and usually on Easter also. I can honestly say that it is my favorite carrot cake ever (and I have tried many different carrot cakes) . The cake itself is very […]
