A New Start

It is closing in on a year since I received my baking and pastry certificate. I have been stressing and worrying about what I wanted to do. Should I try to come up with new ideas for cakes?? How about trying to sell my cakes and baked goods?? Manipulate recipes that I love to make them my own?? Get a job in the baking field somewhere?? Do nothing and continue on with my life as a mom and a dance teacher?? These questions have been in the back of my mind, nagging at me for almost a year now. I think that I have decided what to do. Getting a job, while sounds intriguing and fun would be almost impossible with 2 children in school full time, a preschooler, and their extracurricular schedules. I know that people do have jobs with children but I have gotten used to being home everyday for my boys and only working a couple of nights a week. Somewhat spoiled. Yeah, I know. I have sold a few cakes to people that I know, but I feel like I need more. I do enjoy combining different components to come up with new ideas of baked treats, but even that is starting to bore me a little. I have decided to take it from the movie Julie & Julia and take my most favorite cook books and bake my way through them and blog about it once a week. I am hoping that my experience will be different. I will not be cooking a meal, I have no desire to learn how to cook. I also don’t want to stick with just one cook book or one particular author. This is giving me a purpose and a goal, to bake everything in a particular cook book before moving onto the next one. Doing this will hopefully broaden my dessert obsessions and bring new flavors and techniques into my life. I will still try to add my own personal favorite recipes that I come up with along the way, but at least now I know what I want to do and am very happy with my decision.
